As one of the most important tourist destinations in the Mediterranean, Croatia boasts a long-standing tradition in tourism and shows great potential for development. Compared with a year earlier, 2008 experienced a growth of tourist visits by 1% and nights by 2%. In the next period, it is estimated that visits and overnight stays will grow at an annual rate of one to three percent. Figures from the Croatian National Bank show international tourism revenues amounting to EUR 7.45 bn in 2008.Croatia has 117,902 beds in hotels and aparthotels, 442,402 beds in private accommodation and 213,646 beds in camps. There are 58 marinas with a total of 16,403 berths along the entire coast.

Distributive trade holds an important place in the overall economy of the Republic of Croatia due to 35% of all business entities being active in this field. This branch accounts for approximately 18% of Croatian total employment. Total turnover amounted to HRK 302.36 bn in 2008. |
